I like it. It has a meaning and it's your own idea. About the "abstract" symbol, I don't really think it's that big of a deal. I mean most ppl are just going to ask what it means they won't read chinese characters lol. Good luck with future ones =] |

It wasnt put there to be readable, it's a way of incorporating 'mother' in a graphic way without writing it or getting a DOB or anything. If I just wanted to write mother on my back I would have done. The butterfly is a symbol of who I am. |

It makes me wonder what the point is of getting an actual word in a living language tattooed on your body if you're not going to make it readable or correct. And again, they are "characters" not "symbols." |

Hi Bob, yes the symbol is more intended to be abstract than an actual readable word. I wanted to incorporate being a mother into it and the chinese symbols looked really nice across the wings, far nicer than just writing it. |

I had to really search to find the Chinese character (not "symbol") in there. I finally did, and it's not quite right. Probably oesn't matter since it just looks like a weird abstract design anyway. |

Beautiful tattoo. I love the fact that it holds meaning for you. I think that is what tattoos should do. On a side note. Congrats on the wedding, but I wouldn't put the date in permanant ink on your body. One never knows what the future holds. |

The colors are beautiful! I love the meaning you incorporated into a traditional tattoo with the symbols, but the asymetry is a little distracting. (My butterfly is asymetrical too though, and it drives me nuts if I look at it long enough.) |
