This tattoo is based on the famous painting of St. Michael casting Lucifer out of Paradise by the Renaissance artist Raphael. I've been debating whether or not to finish this one in color or to leave it as a black and gray. To me, it symbolizes the eternal struggle between good and evil, light and dark, that exists in every one of us. To me it is not so much a religious icon as it is a personal expression of an ancient archetypal concept that is at the root of many belief systems.
